CUPE Local 1356 proudly represents more than one bargaining unit at York University, bringing together hundreds of dedicated workers who provide the essential services that keep our campuses operating safely, efficiently, and around the clock. Whether maintaining university buildings and infrastructure, protecting the campus community, assisting students and visitors, or providing customer service, our members are the backbone of York University’s daily operations. Together, we are united by a shared commitment to public service, solidarity, fairness, and respect in the workplace.
CUPE 1356
CUPE 1356 represents the skilled trades, maintenance, services, and plant operations employees who maintain York University’s buildings, grounds, utilities, and critical infrastructure. Members include workers in a wide variety of skilled and operational roles that ensure the university remains safe, functional, and well maintained for everyone on campus.
CUPE 1356-1
CUPE 1356-1 represents the professional staff who work within Community Safety and Parking Services. Our members provide safety, security, parking, and transportation services across York University’s campuses. These dedicated professionals include:
- Parking Enforcement Officers
- Security Officers
- Community Safety Officers
Working 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, these members help create a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
CUPE 1356-2
CUPE 1356-2 represents York University student employees working part-time and casual positions within Community Safety. These members play an important role in supporting campus safety while gaining valuable workplace experience during their studies. Positions include:
- GoSAFE Walk
- CCTV Camera Operators
Our student members are an essential part of the York community, helping to provide safe and reliable services while balancing work and academic responsibilities.
